The FA has approved the women’s super league from 2026/27 season to 14 teams – which has the effect of how many teams are eliminated from the top flight this season.

The 2026/27 campaign to reach 14 teams, the second -tier two teams – the Women’s Super League 2 – will be automatically promoted to the WSL.

The last 14th place will be decided by a rally playoff at the end of the season between the 12th position team in the WSL and the third -position team in the Women’s Super League 2.
From the season of 2026/27, the 14th team in the last position in the league will be automatically terminated, with the 13th position team facing the playoffs with the WSL 2 runner -up.
