In a recent interview with WKBW, our own Shannon KailahanRegional Business Development Manager at Acara Solutions, shared encouraging news about the recovery of the job market of Western New York. After considering a low point in 2024, employment opportunities are running upwards in 2025.
“It’s getting better,” Shannon mentioned in the interview. “If you were discouraged in search of your job last year, it could be a great time to withdraw it.”
Numbers tell the story
Data shows a significant improvement in job availability in Western New York:
- 2021: 30,000 jobs (peak hiring period)
- 2024: 8,000 jobs (market low)
- 2025: 14,000 jobs (current recovery)
This represents a 75% increase in available positions compared to the previous year, indicating a strong reversal in the regional employment scenario.
Changing priorities in the workforce
Shannon highlighted a significant change in the priorities of job seekers. While compensation was once primary idea, the work-life balance has claimed the top position for the third consecutive year. It represents a fundamental change that employees have the most value.
“51% have kept an eye on a new job this year, the highest since 2015, so the top talent is seen,” Shannon explained.
Another disclosure figure: Only one of the five employees believes that his company actually cares about them, underlining the importance of workplace culture and employee engagement.
Advice for job seekers
To re -enter the job market or make a career trick, Shannon gave practical advice:
- Take advantage of your network: “I think it’s really important that your network knows you are looking.”
- Consider the same roles as your current position: Major career pivotes remain challenging, there is a possibility of better success in familiar industries.
