On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed deep concern over the spread of Hepatitis B and C in Pakistan and emphasized the need for immediate action.

According to the organization, Pakistan is the most affected patient of Hepatitis C worldwide, where out of six million global matters, Pakistan has only one million, while 38 million people are living with Hepatitis B.

The worrying thing is that only 25 to 30 percent of them are aware of their illness, due to which they lose time and effective treatment.

In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Hepatitis is a threat to all sections of society. He has confirmed his collective responsibility for the creation of Hepatitis -Fri country.

‘Our healthcare professionals, researchers and frontline workers are working hard, and they need the support of the entire community. Pakistan is one of those countries which are prominent in global hepatitis C. Viral hepatitis is one of the global public health challenges. A large number of people infected with Hepatitis B or C are undefeated and unchanged. While hepatitis is a threat to all sections of society, some population is at high risk. ,

The World Health Organization has urged governments and health officials around the world to “make it easier” to include hepatitis, diagnosis and treatment facilities in the national health system and to promote simplicity, expansion and solidarity. These include vaccination, safe injection methods, loss of loss reduction and specifically testing and treatment.

The organization aims to eliminate hepatitis as a public health problem by 2030.

Representative of the World Health Organization in Pakistan, Dr. Dapang Lu said: ‘Will continue to cooperate with Pakistan in this struggle against Hepatitis. The World Health Organization also confirmed the full support of the Prime Minister’s national program, which aims to test 50 % eligible people (about eight million 25 million people) and treat 5 million affected people by 2027.

The major causes of the spread of hepatitis in Pakistan include unprotected blood, unmanned private blood banks, old and non -bacterial syringes and reuse of equipment, unprotected surgical and dental methods, barber shops and bodies and tattoos used tools.

Viral hepatitis kills 13 million people worldwide every year, most of which die due to liver cancer or server, that is, there are about 3,500 deaths daily.

The World Health Organization has confirmed the commitment that it will continue to provide vaccination, diagnosis and treatment access to every person within 24 hours of birth of newborns, and guidance on scientific basis, whether they live or identify them.

In a message, Regional Director for Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization, Dr. Hanan Balki hoped that on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, he renews his commitment that he would eliminate viral hepatitis as a health risk by 2030.

He said that despite these challenges, he was leading global progress in eliminating Hepatitis C.

Egypt has acquired the World Health Organization (WHO) ‘Gold Tier Status’, and since 2018 has decreased by 35 % in Hepatitis C deaths. He said that the government in Pakistan is developing the ability to treat at least half of the population affected by Hepatitis C, which is about 5 million people in 2027.

“I firmly appeal to governments and partners to intensify and renew joint measures to remove obstacles to eliminate hepatitis in our region. We can end hepatitis together and save valuable lives.”
