In July 2013, South Carolina Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Steli joined former US President Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea on the 10 -day humanitarian journey in Africa. Representing the WNBA, Steley was part of a delegation organized by the Clinton Foundation to observe ongoing community projects in several African countries.

The journey took her to Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania and Rwanda. In Malawi, he visited a farm in which locals were taught how to improve the amount of protein in their diet. In Zambia, he visited the rural clinic with Chelsea Clinton under Clinton Health Access Initiative. In Tanzania, he saw the introduction of banking services.

Talking about this trip, Stel wrote to the Associated Press in an email, “Every day is an eye -opening experience for me.” “We can learn to appreciate the little things of life that we can sometimes see with appreciation.”

Two moments stood especially for the staley. In Zambia, he saw a child listening to a child for the first time after receiving hearing aid.

He wrote, “I will never lose this image.” “My whole life, I will be able to tell people what I like to listen to for the first time or to tell them that people like to see drinking clean water and how we can learn the definition of the small things of life that we can sometimes see with appreciation.”

In Rwanda, he immediately promised funds to cover the medical care of 10 seriously ill children. The trip also included participation in the malaria Testing Football match in Zambia, where he distributed football donated by South Carolina football coach Shelley Smith.

Steley met Bill Clinton in 1996 after winning the Olympic Gold, but this trip gave him a chance to talk to him more personally.

He wrote, “He is actually a charming man whose intellect is far from the chart. It is something I will treasure.” “Clinton is real and careful people who really want to make a difference in the world.”

Steli reflected her Olympic trip And guide young players. Talking about how decades of exhibition in women’s professional basketball, he said:

“When I used to play, women’s basketball is very different for about 30 years. I think it’s better and why. They are faster, they are strong, they are more skilled and they are more skilled in all things because they have been able to see.”
