The shooter suspected of having targeted the headquarters of the National Football League in New York and killing four, was a former football player off competition in two high schools in southern California.
Shane Tamura, 27, was a famous university high school player at the Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita and Granada Hills Charter.
Tamura played football in Golden Valley High School in the Canyon Country district of Santa Clarita for three years before transferring to the Granada Hills Charter School for her last year in 2015. Tamura did not play for the NFL.
‘A hard worker’
Dan Kelley, coach of Golden Valley, told Times that he remembered Tamura as “a good athlete”. A 2015 Times article quoted Kelley as saying that he expected “great things” from Tamura and several other players.
During his last year in Granada Hills, the 5 -foot 7 inch and 140 pound player had 126 races, 600 yards on the ground and five affected, according to Maxpreps. He also won several prizes “Player of the Game”. He graduated in 2016, said the site.
Walter Roby, his coach at Granada Hills, told Fox 11 that he was amazed by the news.
“Shane was very calm. He was a calm and hard worker. He was coachable. So, whatever we asked him to do, he did it. He led, you know, his actions on the field. He was our, you know, one of my best offensive players at the time,” he said. “Could I have done more?” Can I help the child? Could I have contacted him or could you contact me? It’s just a lot I try to treat now. ”
‘So shocking’
The teammate of Granada Hills, Anthony Michael Leon, told NBC News: “It’s so shocking. I tell you, it was one of those children who never had bad energy or a negative attitude.”
“He was silent, but when he spoke, people listened,” added Leon.
We don’t know what Tamura did after high school.
Especially recently, he lived in Las Vegas.
A path to mass shot
The initial investigation indicates that Tamura had traveled from Las Vegas to New York, leading a Cross Country BMW via Colorado, Nebraska and New Jersey during the weekend.
The police said that the police had searched the vehicle that the shooter had left Double parked on Park Avenue between the 51st and 52nd streets and found a rifle case with towers, a loaded revolver, ammunition and magazines, a backpack and prescribed drugs in Tamura. No explosives were inside.
“Mr. Tamura has documented mental health history,” said New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Monday evening, citing Las Vegas police. “His motivations are still under investigation, and we are working to understand why he has targeted this particular location.”
New York mayor Eric Adams said Tamura was trying to target the NFL, but took the bad elevator.
