The acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Phumtham Wechayachai, warned that increasing clashes with Cambodia could descend into a complete war, while the two parties exchanged artillery fire in a second day of violence along the disputed border.

“This current aggression incident is trying and could develop at the war stadium,” Wechayachai told the media in Bangkok, The guardian reported.

“However, at the moment, we are still at the level of the altercation, defeating us with heavy weapons. What we have done so far [is] To protect our land and [the] sovereignty of our nation. “”

Thailand is a major non-nato ally of the United States, while Cambodia is one of the regional allies closest to China.

The two countries began to fight after a recent dispute on terrestrial mines broke out in shooting on Thursday July 24, each team accusing the other of having launched current hostilities.

Thai officials said there had been a number of civilian victims following the Cambodian artillery fire.
