Kuala Lumpur: Thousands of people in the Malaysian capital staged a protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, demanding him to resign.
The performance was against rising prices, new taxes, changes in subsidy and failure of election promises.
According to the police, around 18,000 protesters attended the March, who arrived at the Independence Square at the city center, where opposition leaders addressed the public.
The protesters shouted slogans of “Anwar resignation”, while many classes, including young students, were unhappy with the government’s economic policies. 23 -year student Noor Shahira said that new tax and additional electricity prices will make daily goods more expensive.
Anwar Ibrahim has also been accused of interfering with the judiciary and saving corrupt colleagues. Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed, who recently 100 years old, also participated in the demonstration and accused Anwar of misusing political powers.
It should be noted that Anwar and Mahathir came to the government together in 2018, but the alliance was soon broken. Anwar has also announced some measures against inflation in recent times, but public anger does not seem less.
