A 9 -year -old child died after an incident at the Boardwalk Water Park in Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Hersheypark confirmed that the incident had occurred at the Wave pool, which is closed on Friday out of respect for the victim’s family and staff members who tried to save the child’s life.
The rescuers immediately replied after noticing that the child was in distress, said a statement published by John Lawn, CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company. He said they had saved the child and started making “continuous and coordinated efforts”.
The child was then transported to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
“Our hearts break for this child and the child’s family. We extend our deepest condolences for their loss. Out of respect for their private life, we will not publish any personal details at the moment,” said Lawn. “The security of our guests has always been our highest priority. In the coming days, we will perform an in -depth and internal examination and will cooperate fully with the authorities.”
According to the Hersheyypark websiteThe promenade in Hersheypark is an water park with 16 water attractions, including several water slides, a lazy river and a wave swimming pool of 378,000 gallons.
Hersheypark spokesperson said there were over 100 Ellis & Associates formed And certified rescuers in the walk when the incident occurred on Thursday. Ten of these rescuers supervised the wave swimming pool, the spokesman said.
The 10 rescuers had “received the highest level of training and E&A certification, known as the special training, which includes a deep water rescuer, support for basic life, AED use, additional oxygen support, RCR and first aid”, according to the spokesperson.
CBS News Philadelphia contacted the local authorities for any additional information relating to the survey. We are still waiting for an answer.
