Strict rules dictate what can and cannot pass for a passport photo, and with the lack of filters and hard lighting, they are not exactly supposed to look good.
Many people are counting on the fact that their passport photo will not really be seen that often – but it cannot be said for Rebekah Roark, whose “microwave” appearance has been seen by more than 16 million Tiktok users.
Roark, 29, from Jena, Louisiana, went to get a new passport photo on July 18, which should have been a fairly simple task. Everything was perfectly well at first, as Roark said Nowsweek that it “was satisfied” of the images that the photographer has held him.
But they were not the only printed photos.
Once Roark received his new passport images, he was shown another set which had not completely gone as planned.

“The usual passport photographer was not in it and we both agreed that we were going to try anyway,” said Roark. “If it didn’t work, I could come back when the photographer was at the office. When I saw the photos for the first time, I instinctively laughed noisily in a library. But I remember that this photographer said to me:” That’s why I only do them once a year. “”
Unfortunately for Roark, the stand-in photographer had wrongly printed his images on the bad side of the sheet. As a result, ink has bled, and it left Roark as if it had melted from the camera flash.
Roark could not resist taking a photo of the “microwave passport” images and shared them on Tiktok (@rebekahroark). The position has instantly become viral with more than 16 million views and more than 2.8 million likes at the time of the editorial staff.
Needless to say, Internet users are obsessed with what turned out to be a rather emblematic passport image after all.
Roark said: “I had only about 50 subscribers, so I never thought it would become as big as that has been weeks, and I always receive notifications for this image. Most of them make photos of reaction or lookalike in the comments. Many find joy in the accident, and that’s all that matters to me.”
The online answer was hilarious to see, and Roark loved he could smile on so many faces. She even heard of some social media users who said it was “the hardest that they had laughed for a long time”, which was so encouraging to hear.
Fortunately, Roark managed to get passport photos that can be used and did not let him want to call the police.
She continued to share videos on Tiktok by comparing real photos to melted people, and she will certainly stop laughing at them soon.
“Life will always be difficult. Find the joy you can and share it with others. You never know what could happen,” said Roark Nowsweek.
Thousands of Tiktok users have taken the comments to rent failing passport photos, which has led to more than 25,700 comments on the message so far.
