The mortality of pregnant women in Pakistan is higher than other Islamic countries, Population Council

Islamabad:

The Population Council said that the mortality rate of pregnant women in Pakistan is the highest among other Islamic countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Indonesia and Malaysia.

In collaboration with the Islamic Conceptual Council and the Population Council, a counseling meeting was held on the subject of balance in resources and population, where the Population Council said that 11,000 women in Pakistan die every year.

The Population Council said that the mortality rate of pregnant women in Pakistan is the highest among other Islamic countries including Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and 62 out of 1000 children die before the age of one year.

Similarly, 40 % of children under the age of five in Pakistan are not suitable for age in Pakistan and 18 % of children are suffering from malnutrition and 29 % of children are suffering from weight loss, according to the population council, every third child in Pakistan is out of school.

The Population Council demanded that scholars teach in the light of the Quran and Sunnah that the mother should breastfeed the baby for two years and the interval between the birth of children is useful for the mother and child.

The council said that the mortality rate of mothers and newborns also decreases.
