MP Ming and a Kansas City police officer went to the home to help the woman move when a man inside opened fire without warning, hitting Ming, said Oakman. Kansas City police officer was not injured, he said.
Other officers ran at home when he heard about the shooting, according to Oakman.
“While Kansas City, Kansas, the police service replied, the individual continued to shoot the officers who replied, who then turned fire,” said Oakman.
Oakman said the suspect later identified by the police as 38 years, Shawn Harris, had been injured during the shooting and retired to the house, where he barricaded himself.
Police negotiators spent about an hour talking to Harris on the phone before going, Oakman said.
