Yolo County officials want the state prosecutor’s office to join the Investigation of an explosion of fatal fireworks In a pyrotechnic company due to what many residents consider a conflict of potential interest after revealing that two employees of the Yolo County Sheriff Office had the property where the company caught fire, killing seven people.
Friday, the president of the county of Yolo, Mary Vixie Sandy, wrote to Atty. General Rob Bonta’s officeAsking him to join the investigation into a “strong public perception of conflicts” with the Sheriff office and the current investigation into the murderous industrial accident.
No criminal accusation was filed as part of the explosion and fire that torn a pyrotechnic warehouse in the rural agricultural community of Esparto, California, on July 1.
The Fire Marshal’s office features the investigation and the Yolo County prosecutor’s office monitors in the event of accusation, according to county officials.
“Although we do not question the ability and integrity of the district prosecutor to support Cal Fire and Cal Osha surveys, ensuring that public confidence in the survey and results is of crucial importance for the council of supervisors of the county of Yolo and our community,” wrote Sandy. “We are strongly invited that the perception and integrity of the public of the elements of investigation currently underway at the local level would be better served by the direct participation of the Ministry of Justice.”
The prosecutor’s office said he was examining the request.
The members of the family of victims say that their relatives were hired to pack fireworks in the days preceding the weekend of July 4 at the Esparto warehouse. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fireworks companies have worked on goods belonging to Lieutenant Sam Machado of the Sheriff and his wife, who works as an administrative employee for the Sheriff’s office.
