Tim Kelly Bleacher Report presented a hypothetical commercial idea This would send Zac Gallen to the Chicago Cubs as a “Fresh Start” trade candidate on the deadline to come.

“Two years after being a finalist in the NL Cy Young Award, Zac Gallen has a rather disastrous year of contract, with an MPM of 5.58 and 4.86 FIP to show for his first 21 departures,” wrote Kelly. “But between 2022 and 2024, his war of 12.1 was seventh among all the starting launchers, according to the Fangraphs. If the diamonds are ready to consider offers for him – he is between a ton of free agents imminent in Phoenix – there will be teams who convince themselves that they can recover it with some minor settings.”

“Cubs are a team in a winner-time mode since Kyle Tucker can become a free agent after this season. They have a solid puncture punch with Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd, but they could use another first line option to take the ball in the playoffs. Gallen, when he is right, adapts to this bill.”

Would it make sense?

The trade for Gallen will not be as easy as many are waiting for. Diamondbacks could probably re-sign it on the qualification offer if they wish. If he chooses to go elsewhere, they would pick up a choice of draft instead. Anyway, the diamondbacks would not move away empty.

Cubs could however be aggressive enough to conclude an agreement. Chicago was very aggressive to win this season. Gallen’s acquisition would be another victory stroke, but it is a meaning.

If Chicago can bring him back to his previous form, he was going to win a star for much less capital of perspective than players like Sandy Alcántara.

Be that as it may, this commercial idea would bring the cubs closer to the ultimate goal of winning the World Series.
