The former representative of the United States Beto O’Rourke, the political action committee, propelled by people, was a key donor of the Democrats of Texas in their mission to leave their original state in the hope of preventing the Republicans from implementing a new card of Congress which they consider to be faked.
Powered by People, a group of registration and mobilization of voters, made a donation to Texas House Democratic Caucus – not members directly, or for any online expenditure – to help cover the initial costs for the group, such as accommodation and transport, ABC spokesperson told ABC News.

O’Rourke was regularly in contact with the Democrats of the Chamber since President Donald Trump suggested that the Texas Republicans changed five Congress districts in their favor. Powered by people has put aside from the Trump directive, and O’Rourke assured the caucus in the weeks preceding the potential vote, if they wanted to leave the state, they would have its support, both in rhetoric and in cash.
“We will have the back of these heroic state legislators as long as it takes to stop the seizure of Trump’s power,” O’Rourke said in a statement to ABC News.
O’Rourke learned the alarm on the ramifications of new cards – and the cost of thwarting them – while he was traveling in the country during his visit to the town hall. The former presidential candidate, the Governor and the Senate appealed to donations during his event on Monday evening in Kansas City and did the same on Tuesday in Omaha.
O’Rourke spokesperson, who noted that the O’Rourke donor swimming pool returns to his candidacy for the 2018 Senate, said the group planned to publish details on the quantity of fundraising to help support the efforts of the Quorum Break at a given time.
This species is essential at a time when members are faced with threats of arrest and expulsion. Dozens of members accumulate invoices of their travels to stay outside the limits of the state to avoid being picked up by state authorities for at least the next two weeks, but perhaps longer, until the end of this special session.
Although they can have to last much longer, because Governor Greg Abbott could call another session shortly after. Members are also faced with the possibility of undergoing high legal fees if Abbott and the punitive threats of the Attorney General Ken Paxton increases.
A spokesperson for the House Democratic Caucus told ABC News that “members are incredibly grateful for the effusion of the support of citizens of Texas and the country that stand with them”.
And they reiterated that the effort is being purchased legally.
Abbott ordered the Texas Rangers to investigate Democratic members for “potential corruption and any other potential legal violation” linked to their trips outside the state.
“Each penny of spending for this effort is paid for legally,” said House Department Democratic Caucus, and rather accused paxton of corruption.
“Texans know what the real political corruption looks like. They saw it when Ken Paxton has taken” donations “of a million dollars to repel the consequences of his criminal indictments and fake his accusation trial,” continued the spokesman for the Caucus Democrat of the Chamber.
Paxton was dismissed in May 2023 to affirm that he had abused his power to help a friend and a donor. He denied all the allegations, calling them at the time a partisan “imposture”.
He described the dismissal procedure that followed a “ugly show”, adding that they were “never supposed to be fair or just”. The Texas Senate acquitted Paxton in September 2023.
Chamber’s rules prohibit members from using campaign accounts to cover a fine of $ 500 per day each day, they are not at work. It is not known how, if necessary, outside money can be used to help cover penalties.
