
New Delhi, (UNI): The Supreme Court stopped the Bombay High Court on Thursday 21 to acquit all the 12 persons in the 2006 Mumbai train blast case, saying that they would not be arrested yet.
A bench of Justice MM Sandarshish and Justice N. Kotisar Singh ordered in this regard. The bench accepted the petition of Solicitor General Tasher Mehta, saying that the High Court verdict would not be considered an example in other pending Maharashtra Control’s Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). The Supreme Court issued notices to all concerned by the Maharashtra government on a request of a special permission to challenge the authenticity of the High Court’s decision. The bench considered the argument and made it clear that the High Court’s decision would not be considered an ideology.
The High Court ruled on Monday, July 21, 2025. This changed the 2015 decision of the special MCOCA court, in which five accused were sentenced to death and seven were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court sentenced Tanveer Ahmed Ibrahim Ansari, Mohammad Majid Shafi, Sheikh Mohammed, Mohammad Sajid Marghab Ansari, Muzammal Ataur Ataur Ataur Rahman Sheikh, Sohail Mahmood Sheikh and Zamir Ahmir Ahmed Sheikh to life imprisonment.
On July 11, 2006, seven bombings were carried out in Mumbai local trains. 189 people were killed and 820 injured in the incident.
