New Delhi, (Agencies): The Supreme Court on Monday stopped criminal defamation proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the alleged derogatory statement about the Indian Army.
A bench, including Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Augustin George Maasih, stopped the parties after hearing the arguments of the parties. However, the court complained about the remarks of applicant Rahul Gandhi, questioning why he was raising such cases on social media rather than raising such cases in Parliament. The bench warned Mr. Gandhi that if you are a true Indian, then you should not say such things.
The court issued a notice to the state government in this 2022 case and stopped judicial proceedings. The Supreme Court will hear the case after three weeks. In the Lok Sabha, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi contacted the Supreme Court after the Allahabad High Court dismissed his petition.
It has been alleged that Rahul Gandhi made derogatory remarks on the Indian Army, comparing Chinese forces in the context of Arunachal Pradesh during the journey.
Former Border Road Organization (BRO) director Aade Shankar Srivastu filed a complaint on December 16, 2022 regarding the alleged derogatory remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
