A 22 -year -old graduate student who disappeared after leaving a bar early on Sunday morning was found dead in the Mississippi river, according to the Crosse police service.

Eliot Heinz, a graduate student at Viterbo University at the butt, Wisconsin, was seen on Sunday for the last time around 3:22 a.m. near Mississippi, police announced. According to his poster as a missing person, Heinz was seen to leave the Bronco bar at the butt around 2:30 am

Heinz’s body was found in the Mississippi river near Brownsville, Minnesota on Wednesday, police announced.

“It was not the result that we hoped throughout this research. Our thoughts are with Elototte’s family, friends and all those who knew Eliot. We are grateful to the support of support for so many people within the Crosse community, the state of the Wisconsin and at the national level to locate Eliotet,” the police said on Wednesday.

Police said they were continuing to investigate and “await the results of an autopsy for an official cause of death”.

The University of Viterbo declared in a press release that the community had “the heart broken by this loss” and expands “our deepest sympathies to its families and friends”.

“There are no words that can lighten the pain of losing someone so young, with so much life in front of her. Our hearts go to Eliote’s family. We hold them in our prayers and we hold on to them in their sorrow,” said the president of the University of Viterbo, Rick Trietley.

Earlier Tuesday, police said that Heinz’s search had remained active, with “many resources” used while they continue to receive advice.

Community members gathered to search for Heinz and distribute copies of his poster as a missing person.

Heinz’s family had asked residents of the region to examine images of the security camera at home since early Sunday morning between 2 am, saying that “even the smallest detail could make a difference”.

“The outpouring support for Eliote’s research efforts has been overwhelming, and we are deeply grateful for the kindness, prayers and encouragement of the community and beyond,” said the family in a statement Shared Tuesday on the social media of the university before the discovery of his body.

Viterbo will hold a commemorative service for Heinz this fall, “in coordination with his family once the students return to the campus,” the university said in a statement.
