The rapper and producer of Soulja Boy records was arrested early Sunday morning in Los Angeles and accused of possession of a firearm during a traffic stop, according to the Los Angeles police department.
The musician, whose real name is Deandre Cortez Way, was arrested by the police around 2:35 am, the local time at the intersection of the avenues Melrose and Genesee, the police announced.
“A passenger was detained and the police arrested Deadre Cortez Way to be a criminal sentenced in possession of a firearm,” said the LAPD, who is a crime.
Online files show that the 35 -year -old man was arrested around 2:50 a.m., he has not been clear if he has been released or where he is detained.
NBC News contacted a representative for the manner.
Earlier this year, Way was tried responsible for sexual assault and physically and emotionally abuse of a former assistant after a three -week trial in California. A jury granted women $ 4 million in damages. The woman had initially filed the complaint in 2021.
Rickey Ivie, musician lawyer at the time, said the evidence had not supported the verdict.
“It is regrettable that the erroneous sponsorships and perceptions of a culture have been authorized to influence the trial,” said IVie. “Mr. Way fully intends to continue his remedies after the trial and to fight for a fair result in this case.”
It is not the only time a woman brought charges against the way.
Months later in 2021, another woman who claimed to go out with the rapper filed a complaint against him alleging physical and sexual abuses. Another ex-girlfriend filed a complaint against Way in 2020, alleging assault, blows and false prison terms.
The artist became famous in 2007 when his first single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” struck the number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
