A Royal Caribbean The crew member jumped over board on his death on Thursday evening after stabbing another crew member of the cruise, according to the Royal Bahamas police forces.
The crew member, a 35-year-old South African man, has stabbed a 28-year-old South African woman several times aboard the cruise ship on the seas shortly before 7:30 p.m., police announced in a statement at NBC News. The ship was in the water off the coast of the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas.
The man then fled the premises and jumped from the ship, according to the police. He was then found dead by medical staff on board.
The woman suffered stab wounds in the upper body and is in a stable state according to the police.
A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said the incident was “a personal dispute”, but had not provided other details.
“One of the crew members was injured, was followed by the medical team on board, and is now in a stable state,” said the spokesperson. “Unfortunately, the other crew member died after his departure over board and was recovered from a research and rescue operation.”
Royal Caribbean did not identify the crew members involved in the incident.
An autopsy to determine the exact cause of the death of the man is pending, according to the police.
