Representative Ralph Norman, RS.C., a member of the Hard-Right Freedom Caucus, announced Sunday that he presented himself to the post of governor, seeking to succeed the governor of the GOP, Henry McMaster, who cannot present himself to the re-election because of the limits of the mandate.
Norman was sometimes a thorn on the side of the leaders of the GOP, in particular for the bills of expenditure. Norman was also one of the few legislators in the Chamber not to approve President Donald Trump in the presidential primary, rather supporting the presidential campaign of the former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley.
He congratulated Trump when he announced, saying that his actions would make him one of the “greatest” presidents.
“What he did to destroy the world, the terror of Iran, what he did, the courage he had to do what he did is to put him on the annals of the greatest presidents we have ever had,” said Norman. “And I believe that the South Carolina needs this same type of leadership at the moment, that’s why I’m here to announce that I run to be the 118th Governor of South Carolina.”
“I run so that the governor gets things done,” he added, in the midst of the cheers of “ralph! Ralph! Ralph!”
Norman said he would work to adopt mandate limits for state legislators, a message that was also sporting in front of his microphone: “Limits of term. Clean Columbia ”.
The representative praised his conservative good faith, pointing his time in the House Freedom Caucus.
“Some people say that I have acquired the reputation of being without compromise, always trying to build – to make a bill more conservative. Well, friends, I take it as a compliment,” said Norman. “I’m proud of it. When it comes to defending the values of South Carolina and protecting your hard taxes, I take a good deal and I can’t apologize.”
Haley previously was governor of South Carolina and she approved the campaign of Norman governor on Sunday, according to a press release from her campaign.
Several candidates for the GOP have already announced their offers, including Alan Wilson, the attorney general of the State; And Pamela Evette, lieutenant of the state.
Norman made his announcement at Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was presented by his son and walked on stage on the song “I Won’t Back Down”, which the Trump campaign has already used.
The election is next year.
