The parents of a 22 year old man in northern California who was stabbed While trying to stop an attack on his friend asks the public to help the police identify the suspect, as the investigators say that the murder may have been recorded on the video of the mobile phone by passers -by.

The victim, identified by his family as Raymond Orozco, was killed early Sunday in downtown San Jose, California, where he and a group were released for a night in town, said the parents of the victim.

“We would like to obtain justice for him. We would like the police to have the person who did this and got him what they deserve,” said Orozco’s father, Roy Orozco, to ABC San Francisco Station Kgo-TV.

Raymond Orozco, 22, was fatally stabbed on July 20, 2025, in downtown San Jose, California, while trying to stop an attack on a friend, said his parents.

San Jose police responded to stabbing calls around 12:51 p.m. Sunday in a downtown entertainment area, according to the San Jose police department.

“Upon their arrival, they located a victim of an adult man suffering from at least one injury by stab,” the police said in a statement. “The police immediately started rescue measures and summoned paramedical paramedics on the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he finally died of his injuries and was declared deceased.”

The unidentified culprit of the homicide occurred from the scene before the arrival of the police and remains in general, the authorities said.

“During the investigation, the detectives learned that the victim was involved in a physical confrontation before the stab wounds and believes that the incident had perhaps been recorded on the video of the mobile phone by several unattractive passers-by,” police said in a statement, asking anyone with a video or information on the attack to immediately contact detectives.

In the interview with Kgo-TV, Orozco’s mother, Daniela Ruiz said the killer “took my heart”.

Ruiz and Roy Orozco said their son was released with a cousin and two friends when one of the women in their group was attacked on South 2nd Street in San Jose.

Roy Orozco said he had learned that his son had intervened to break the attack when he had been stabbed.

“It’s not like if he was doing someone. He was just trying to remove someone else’s people,” said Roy Orozco. “So that someone shoots a weapon on someone without weapons like it is beyond ridiculous.”

Parents said their son was working in a group home for the elderly with physical and development troubles. Raymond Orozco had hoped to become a first speaker, said his parents, and had recently been accepted to attend a Chabot College fire academy in Hayward, California in the fall.

“They took one of the brightest lights in the world,” said Roy Orozco. “This affects more than us. It affects so many other people, and the potential must have helped even more people to be kidnapped from the world.”
