Pakistan won gold medal at International Science Olympiad for the first time

Pakistan has given a new example by winning the first gold medal in its history at the International Science Olympiad.

According to the app report, Abdul Rafa Parach of Siddique Public School received a gold medal in the 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), which was held in the Philippines from 20 to 27 July 2025.

The Pakistani team participated in the Olympiad under the Steam Career Program, a joint venture with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Payes).

The team led Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Asma Rahman did, which belongs to the National Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), a subsidiary of Pius.

Ayan Aslam of Government College University Lahore also represented Pakistan to Honorable Haveli, Sadia Zulfikar (Siddiq Public School Rawalpindi) and Uroz Fatima (Fusion College, Shikarigarh Narowal).

According to the report, PIUS has four articles in the National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) every year in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, which is the expansion version of the National Physics Talent Competition (NPTC), which starts in 1995 and regularly held in 2003.

Pakistan started participating in the International Physics Olympiad, Mathematics Olympiad in 2005 and Biology and Chemistry Olympiad in 2006.

Under this program, more than 380 students have represented Pakistan internationally and won 140 medals, while over 240 training premises held in HEC institutions across the country have been trained by more than 4,500 students.
