Islamabad:
12 PTI activists were sentenced in the case of protest of 26 November.
District and Sessions Courts Islamabad heard the protest of 26 November, in which two courts sentenced PTI workers in cases of PPO Act.
The trial court sentenced the accused (PTI activists) to 66 months imprisonment. The court sentenced 12 cases (2 at Ramna police station and one at Tarnol police station) and sentenced 12 workers to acquit a worker.
According to the verdict, on 26 November, a rally was sentenced for a rally. Cases were registered against the accused under the Peace Phil Assembly and Public Order (PAPO) Act.
It may be remembered that Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shehzad Gondal heard the decision of two cases of Ramna police station, while Judicial Magistrate Murid Abbas ruled the police station in Taranol.
During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Usman Rana said in his arguments that the protest of 26 November did not fall under the category of peaceful meeting. The protest was neither valid under the Constitution nor according to international law. The state took legitimate, proportional and legal measures for peace.
Arguing in the court, the Special Public Prosecutor said that the right to peaceful protest is not unconditional, holding the law is unavoidable. Such a gathering does not have protection under the Constitution, ICCPR and ECHR. The objective of protest of 26 November was to meet additional constitutional demands.
