One of the three police officers from Lorain, Ohio, Shot Wednesday in what the authorities described as an ambush died, police announced on Thursday.
Officer Phillip C. Wagner ate pizza in his patrol car parked with another patrol car next to him around 1:05 p.m. when a shooter, also parked in the region, opened fire on them, said the Lorain police.
Wagner, 35, was shot dead several times and died Thursday at Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland, police announced.
Two other officers were injured. The officer who was parked next to Wagner was shot in hand and an officer who led to help after the shots were also slaughtered on several occasions, the police said.
The suspect was killed by police officers in an exchange of shots, the police service of the neighboring city of Elyria said on Thursday, who conduct the investigation.
Elyria police identified the suspect Thursday as Michael Parker, 28, from Lorain. The Elyria police service, a neighboring city, is investigating because there was a shooting involving officers.
Wagner served in the Marine Corps and was at the Lorain Police Service for seven years, Lorain police announced.
“The life and service of the Wagner officer in our city will never be forgotten,” said the acting police chief in Lorain, Michael, in a statement.
In and around the Parker vehicle, the police found “several high -power rifles, handguns and substantial quality of loaded magazines,” Elyria police said in a statement on Thursday.
There was also “a large amount of improvised explosive materials in the vehicle,” said Elyria police.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, said the ministry. Lorain police qualified the shooting an ambush.
Governor Mike Dewine ordered the flags to be lowered to half of the staff to recognize Wagner.
