A New York police officer and three other people were shot in an office building in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening by a gunman with a power rifle, police confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Shane D. Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, died of a self-inflicted ball injury, police announced.
The NYPD commissioner, Jessica Tisch, said that the surveillance video shows that the suspect coming out of a black BMW with a double word on Park Avenue between the 51st and the 52nd street just before 6.30 p.m., bearing a M4 rifle in her right hand. He then entered the 44 -storey building at 345 Park Ave., turned right and immediately started opening fire on an officer in the NYPD.
Shortly after, several 911 calls were received on an active shooter inside the building, said Tisch.

Didarul Islam, 36, worked in the 47th Bronx district. Four -year -old veteran, Didarul was on a remunerated detail on Monday as part of a NYPD program which allows agents to be employed by private companies to ensure additional security, Naveen Dhaliwal from CBS New York reported.

Didarul leaves behind a pregnant woman and two young sons, said the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, during a press conference at the end of the evening.
“He did the best, and all the members of the police service realize. He saved lives. He protected New Yorkers,” said Adams. “He was an immigrant from Bangladesh and he loved this city. And all those with whom we spoke declared that he was a person of faith and a person who believed in God and believed in living the life of a divine person. He embodies what this city is everything.
Adams said two men and a woman had also been killed during the shooting and another man is in critical condition. The mayor called the shooting “a violent and contemptible attack,” adding “, no word can describe this act of evil, a man who takes the life of others who are innocent. And no word can fill the void left by this tragedy.”
The building contains offices for Blackstone, NFL, KPMG and others.
An NFL employee was seriously injured and was hospitalized in a stable state, according to a message that the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent to NFL employees. It was not clear if this person was the one that Adams said earlier in critical condition.
Adams said he had met the family of Islam earlier in the evening and told them how much he had been admired for having put his life at stake.
“He was his father’s only son. I think of Jordan, my child, and it is unimaginable to undergo a loss of this magnitude,” said the mayor.
The names of the people killed and the injured person are selected, pending family notification.
“Tonight, we mourn four New Yorkers, one of the best in New York, taken in an act of insane violence,” said Governor Kathy Hochul on social networks. “Our hearts are with their loved ones and all those who were affected by this tragedy, and we honor the first speakers who courageously ran towards danger.”
What the preliminary investigation reveals
After shooting the officer, the shooter shot a woman who had sheltered behind a pillar and then crossed the hall, spraying it with gunshots, officials said.
He then headed for the elevator bank, shooting a security guard who had covered himself behind the security desk. Another injured man told the police at New York-Presbyterian hospital that he had been shot in the hall, said Tisch.

The police commissoner said that at one point, the shooter was waiting for an elevator to arrive, and when he did it, a woman appeared, but he allowed him to walk unscathed. The shooter then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, the Rudin Management site, and “started walking on the ground, pulling strokes while he was traveling”. Tisch said one of the victims had been shot on this floor.
“He then moves in the corridor and pulls in the chest,” said Tisch.
What the police know of the shooter Shane Tamura
Tisch said the vehicle Tamura had left on Park Avenue had been recorded. Inside, the police found a rifle box with towers, a loaded revolver, ammunition and magazines, a backpack and prescribed drugs in Tamura. No explosives were found.
The commissioner said that the preliminary conclusions show that Tamura led the vehicle across the country to go to New York, travel through Colorado on Saturday, Nebraska and Iowa on Sunday, and go through Columbia, New Jersey, at 4:14 p.m. on Monday.

His reason remains under investigation. Tisch said the investigators tried to understand why he targeted 345 Park Ave. especially.
After information reporting the shooting, the building was placed on a locking and the area was blocked, the police said.

We lost four people tonight, and our brother hero, who gave his life for this city. He was a worker police officer who was proud, we know of his family, to put his work.”
Hendry said the loss of Islam will serve great motivation in the future when the investigation will continue.

We injure all the victims and we injure all the families of the victims. And we all ask why? Why did Pure Evil come here?
