A 22 -year -old US Rotc cadet died in Kentucky training last week, officials announced.
Neil Edara de Ridgewood, New Jersey, died after being insensitive when training land navigation in the installation of the US army Fort Knox on Thursday, the command of the American army in a statement on Saturday.
He attended the summer training of the cadets as part of the 9th Regiment, Advanced Camp, said the command. He received medical care on the scene before being taken by helicopter to the hospital at the University of Louisville, where he was declared dead, he said.
Edara was on the land navigation site of the installation, said command, which is used to teach cadets how to determine the locations and travel and targeting distances.
High temperatures in the region of Fort Knox have been in the 90s in recent days, according to data from the National Weather Service.
The meteorological service published an urgent weather message on Sunday to extend a heat notice for the region until Wednesday evening. “Hot temperatures and high humidity can cause heat diseases,” said the message.
The press release of the army cadet announcing the death of Edara did not mention that the heat wave entering a large part of the South and the Midwest, and what caused his death is under investigation.
“Cadet and executives security remains the absolute priority of the American army cadet as the training continues,” the command said in its press release.
The command said that Edara joined the ROTC at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 2021.
Lieutenant-Colonel Timothy Sorensen, professor of Rutgers military science, said that Edara had the heart of a chief.
“The Cadet Edara was one of the most devoted and promising young leaders that I had the privilege of knowing,” he said in the declaration of command. “His calm has collected an unwavering behavior and commitment to excellence has left a lasting impact on everyone around him.”
