A reminder of around 192,000 game kitchens was published after the death of a young Oregon child playing with one.
Backyard Kids, LLC, from Plano, Texas, announced Thursday the recall of the Kidkraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens. The company proposes to replace hooks on all units, which are used to contain accessories of toy kitchen, such as pots, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The kitchens are originally made by Kidkraft, Inc., and only about 400 of them were sold by Backyard Kids LLC to consumers, including 12 sold in Canada.
The kitchens are sold from $ 120 to $ 270 and have been sold on Kidkraft.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com from 2018 to this month, according to the security commission.
The recall comes after a hook taken on the shirt of a 23 -month -old child in Oregon which cracked through an opening at the back of the game kitchen in 2023.
“The child could not save himself and died of strangulation and asphyxiation,” the security commission said in a press release.
In a statement, Kidkraft said that the 53411 model play kitchens “pose a risk of strangulation and asphyxiation and a risk of serious injury or death for young children who climb on the counter or crawl through the opening at the back of the game kitchens”.
“Your safety is our first priority,” the toy manufacturer said in the press release.
The company filed for a bankruptcy in May 2024. It is not known if this is linked to the death of the Toddler in 2023.
Backyard Kids, LLC did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
People who have toy kitchens are advised to stop using them, withdraw the original hooks and contact Backyard Kids, LLC for replacement hooks, the security commission said.
