Lahore, (Urduupoint / Pakistan Point News – 25th July 2025) Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Punjab government for the implementation provisions under Punjab Price Control of Essential Compinion, 2024, based on a petition of a petition agent 2024-25 season.
Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed announced a reserve decision on a petition transferred by Zafar Khan, President of Kisan Board Pakistan. The decision was reserved on the completion of arguments from all parties.
The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Zubair Afzal Rana argued that the Agriculture Department had issued a symbolic value of only rupees. The 2024-25 for wheat crop was 4,108 per 40 kg, but officially failed to inform a support price. He said that inactivity has damaged the farmers, causing financial damage and the mole has reduced. He warned that the neglect couch reduced the wheat product and discouraged future cultivation, potentially threatened national food security.
He urged the court to directly fix the wheat support price for proper compensation to sensory farmers.
On the other hand, Assistant Attorney General Muhammad Wasim said that, after the 18th constitutional amendment, the provinces now have special rights over price regulation. He discontinued the dissection of fixed support prices, arguing with the Artificial Market, arguing with the International Best Impactose Famer Kisan Return.
Supporting this stance, Assistant Advocate General Salman Asif Warrich pointed out the previous information about wheat prices and public procurement to make buffer stock. He said that these measures were not long under global food security frameworks and said that the government had shifted to alternative support systems. He said that these include financial assessment programs and storage facilities for wheat growers.
