Lando Nooris: How MacLarn Driver refuses the team’s expectations to beat Oscar Patteries in Hungary’s Grand Prix F1 News

Team Principal Andrea Stella has revealed that McLaren does not think that the One -stop strategy, which won the Grand Prix of Hungary, was possible before the race.

Nuris stopped the Oscar Pyastr after a fierce battle to reduce the championship deficit to nine points in the summer break.

The British driver started third, but he came in fourth behind George Russell, and was already seven seconds behind Race Leader Charles Lucknow and Piestry before competing for the first time.

“Our baseline strategy was a two -stop strategy,” Stella explained.

“We did not necessarily think that a stop was possible, so we went to the Oscar with two stops to try and pass the leakage in the first stop. Then we tried to expand the second stop to get the tire delt and it worked.

“With Lando, when we expanded, except Lando, we did not think that one stop was possible. But, Lando, Sahara, put it in a very strong fields and lap with the tires used, so we convinced ourselves that a stop game was starting to enter because we were developing with the first stunt.

“We did not enter the race with one or two stops. We thought there would be two stop strategies.”

Noris made the last place to 32, which was half of the race, which was the key to his victory because the tires avoided falling from a mountain and when he confronted the hardships, he was still moving.

He said, “This makes them last at the moment we were. I made the medium until the last time, like, what, leap 32 or anything else.”

“It was not a terrible thinking that I could eliminate the difficulties by the end. It was more that I just knew that I had to move the flat for each lap basically, and at the same time when it was a bit difficult.

“Tires get heated. Mistakes are easy. In the last few lap, the rubber is probably very low, and the tire is so easy to lock in one, two, chicken, such things.

“I knew that I could easily eliminate the tire, but it was more than to stay ahead with other people. It was basically trying to move beyond George and Charles. I did not expect much that I would still be in a fight with the Oscar but it came to an end. So it was better.”

Noorus: I was doing banking on a safety car

Nuris says his ninth career F -1 win was the first to use alternative strategies on Sunday, although he cited his first victory in the Miami Grand Prix of 2024 when the safety car played in his hands while running for a long time.

He revealed the idea behind a stop strategy in Hungary to try luck in a timely safety car or virtual safety car to return to the lead fight.

“When (his engineer) asked me, ‘What do you think of a one -stop?’ I think at that time, I was already behind the Oscar seven seconds and four behind Charles.

“It’s not like I thought my race was over, but it was very thin that I would be able to fight at least, even a perfect two -stop strategy. So, my expectations were not high, but I was banking more on safety car or VSc or to bring me back to the race.

“But I didn’t have any of it. Finally, I think it doesn’t matter. My confidence was not the most, but it was my best opportunity to try to do something.

“It proved to be a bit difficult because he really allowed me to fight until the end of the win. I don’t believe it still felt like a great strategy, but I think the overtaking is how difficult it is, it turned out.”

Piastri questions strategies

After the stop of its second pit, the PESTRANCE had 12 seconds, which left 25 laps to close the Norris. Unlike Nuris in the back race in Belgium, he pulled out pieces from his loss without making any clear errors permanently and grabbed it to go into six laps.

He had half a look with Bari 1 with three laps and then threw the car into the partial lap first, and only avoided contacting Norris, who left the room inside.

“I was able to close this gap once again for the last lap,” said PESTRY.

“When I approached, it was always difficult. But, I mean, you never want to take the opportunity about which you think if no one else ever comes out.

“I had to go for it and, you know, of course, obviously you could say that I should wait for another lap, but I am very sure that even if I waited for another lap, nothing changed.”

On his strategy he added: “In the race, I was asked about it [a one-stop]. It is very difficult to know from the cockpit about what to do.

“When you are behind, your risk -of -the -ness ratio is always very different. It is always so. Can we be similar to Lando? That’s what I think, I do not have the answer to this question. So, I think this is the only thing.”

Like the PEST’s driving, the same impressive, Noris did not make a single foot wrong as the two drivers pushed incredibly hard to eliminate 21 seconds from Russell.

Norris said: “It was difficult, those last few laps were in the most difficult lap because the Oscar was pushing the flat on a better tire than me.

“I was just trying not to make a mistake and when the tire happens, it was so easy to lock up at the end of a stunt.

“The mistake was just so easy so I felt that I had to drive 100 % and it is too high and I’m driving at 98 %.

“So it had a 99 % limit, which was very difficult to walk, but one I had to continue for a long time.”

Brown: close to perfect as much as possible

MacLauren’s chief executive Zak Brown has permanently said that his drivers are free to race and they are happy that the team scored their fourth season after the thrilling war.

He told Sky Sports F1: “You are never perfect in a race, but I think it was as close as you can. The drivers were amazing, the pit stops were amazing, there was a strategy to get up to Lando, the Oscar run brilliantly. I can’t be foolish with this racing team.

“Everyone is under control. I had some good chat with Andrea [Stella] During the race, it was very interesting. It was a great grandson.

“With the first lap of Lando, we were not planning a stop strategy, we did not know what we could do but then it came to the point where we try. They knew it would come to the last five laps and their race was very tight, very clean, very clean and they were both happy boys.”
