The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has released more than five billion rupees to end the financial crisis in government universities in the province, which has been declared ‘welcome’ by the Peshawar University Teachers Association.

Yesterday, the strike was announced by teachers and other employees on the issue of salary at Peshawar University, during which the employees boycotted all administrative issues in front of the vice -president’s office and four basic demands.

In a statement issued by the Peshawar University Teachers Association on Wednesday, it was demanded that all employees be paid 50 % of the June salary while the full salary of July should be paid.

Similarly, it was also demanded that retired employees be paid residual pension for June and July.

The third demand was that in 2023 and 2024, some retired employees in terms of pension were salaries, which should be paid immediately.

The Joint Action Committee had threatened that if the grant was not announced by the government, the classrooms would be boycotted along with administrative issues.

However, now after the government issued funds, Peshawar University today thanked the government in its statement and called it “welcome”.

According to university spokesperson Mohammad Noman, Peshawar University will be given more than Rs 2 billion in grants of more than 5 billion rupees.

Namana told independent Urdu that the grant pension was approved in terms of arrears, which would pay the arrears of the university for the last seven to eight years.

He said: ‘In the last eight years of the university, pension has not been paid to retired employees, this grant will solve the problem.’

What is the reason for the financial crisis repeatedly?

Peshawar University is the oldest and largest public university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where thousands of students are studying.

However, the university has been facing financial crisis from time to time over the years, which has not ensured timely payment of salary to employees.

In the past, university employees have also been boycotted except demonstrations, sitting, a pen and even classrooms.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has all government universities independent institutions, but the government is given an annual grant to prevent financial crisis.

University spokesperson Mohammad Noman was asked why the financial crisis came frequently, he said that the main reason for this is not allowed university expenses in the provincial budget, which causes financial crisis.

On the other hand, according to Mohammad Noman, the entry rate of students in the university has decreased as BS (four -year) degree program has been started in various government colleges for the last few years.

He said: ‘BS semester fees in colleges.

In addition, Mohammad Noman said that the grant received by higher education after 2018 is not increasing by 10 % annually, while the branch of Higher Education Commission does not exist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Noman said: ‘One of the main reasons is the property of the university which is present in various areas of Peshawar and the province, but from there the university gets a few thousand rupees in the rent and those who have given it on it, they get lakhs of rupees on it.’
