Crypto hacks and security threats are growing again, hackers stole more than $ 140 million acres of multipla platforms in July.

Summary

  • Crypto platforms have confirmed more than $ 142m in July 17 in July.
  • The attackers are rapidly taking funds, often within minutes.
  • Coindcx and GMX were the biggest exploitation goals of the month.

Kakinord for data shared by blockchain protection firm Packshields on Aug. 1, the total deficit suffered a $ 142 million injury last month, from $ 111.6 million in June to 27%. There were seventeen major hack reports in July, most of the damage focused in only five investments.

The sharp growth highlights how quickly the methods of attack are developing, leaving very little time for platforms to react or to react to stolen funds.

Coindcx, GMX among the most toughest-toughest platforms

A major Indian exchange COINDCX was the target of single biggest exploitation, causing a loss of $ 44.2 million on 19 July. The attack was triggered by Malware Sen to a company employee through a fake job offer.

It highlighted weaknesses in internal security practices, even well different firms.

GMX (GMX), a decentralized derivative protocol, was the second largest victim. The contract is about to earn $ 42 million a month due to vulnerability. The atherium (Ath) was later withdrawn to about $ 40.5 million and Legacy Frakes Dollar (Frakes) later, but exploitation still raised alarm about decentralized finance risk.

Other major violations in July include Bigone Exchange $ 28m, Woo X $ 12m, and future protocols at $ 4.2m. Even with the recovery of the party from the GMX attacker, a net deficit of $ 100 million was reported in July. The insight of Pekshild shows that malicious actors motivate them to live despite height and on-chain survey.

Laundering speed leaves very little time to answer

A deep layer of concern lies in how soon the attackers carry the stolen money forward. Global laser, a blockchain-centered anti-mani laundering and a new H1 2025 report by the forensic firm, the attackers are not only more striking, they are not only more often, they are laundering the first faster property before.

Global laser wrote in his summary, “The fastest attacking fund movement in H1’25 was just 4 seconds.” In one case, the entire laundering process, from the initial movement to the final destination, was completed within just 3 minutes.

Global laser also found that 70% of cases, funds were already in motion, before the incident was publicly disclosed. Effective reactions from complaint techniques, regulators, or centralized exchanges are interrupted by this delay. Only 4.6% stolen assets were recovered in the first half of 2025, even technology was available to track transactions.

“Speed has been made a dangerous new weapon,” the report states that traditional AML workflows are not on their own. Several adventures of July include smart contract falls, malicious approval, or compromised keys, types of attacks that live separately to stop with current devices.

The report concluded that without rapid detection methods and strict internal security, platforms may decline as the attackers get smarter and fast.
