The company plans to introduce its first assembling car in Pakistan by July or August next year, a top official of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD said on Wednesday. The move aims to meet the increasing demand for electric and plugin hybrid vehicles in the area.
According to the British news agency, a Chinese company, byd, is spreading rapidly outside its country, where it is facing a fierce value war.
Pakistan’s plant will meet the growing demand in the emerging markets and will also give the company an opportunity to take advantage of the encouragement given by the Pakistani government.
BYD Pakistan Sales and Strategy Vice President Danish Khaliq told Reuters that the plant near Karachi has been under construction since April, being built in collaboration with BYD and Mega Motor Company (which is a subsidiary of Pakistani utility hub power).
Initially, the plant will have a capacity to produce 25,000 vehicles annually in double shifts, he said. He did not say that the plant will reach full capacity or when will a mass production start there?
Danish Khaliq said the plant’s work would begin with collecting the imported section, while some non -seminal parts would also have a local production. Initially, these vehicles will be manufactured for the domestic market, while the later area is likely to export to countries in the right hand drive, which will depend on the freight and the cost of business conditions.

He said: ‘We do not expect additional scope in our system, while demand will increase in Pakistan.’
BYD began providing imported EV vehicles in Pakistan in March. Khalik did not say the exact number of sales, but said a few hundred vehicles were sold 30 % more than the internal target.
He said that he hoped that the market for EV and plugin hybrid vehicles in Pakistan will increase from about 1000 units in 2024 to three to four times in 2025.
According to Hubco’s filing, byd Pakistan made a profit of about 44.4 million ($ 15 million) in March 2025 in the March quarter.
Byd is presenting its shark section plugin hybrid pickup truck in Pakistan on Friday. China’s MG is already selling Phevsuv, while rival company Havil is also going to join the field soon.
Plugin hybrid vehicles provide more practical options in Pakistan as there is a lack of charging stations for full electric vehicles in the country. In January, the government reduced power tariffs by 45 % for EV charging stations to promote electric vehicles and encourage private charging stations.
