The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced more assistance to bring back Afghanistan’s deported women cricketers back into the game.

The French news agency AFP said that the ICC said in a statement issued on Sunday night, “The program has been established to provide systematic assistance.”

According to the statement, it includes ‘playing at the national level and playing in the ICC world programs, including the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India in 2025 and the Women’s T20 World Cup in England in 2026.’

Most players of the Afghan women’s cricket team were forced to exile after the Taliban came to power in 2021, when women were banned from participating in the game.

Many of them moved to Australia and played a match in Melbourne earlier this year without any official identity.

The ICC’s annual conference held in Singapore on Saturday said that the Afghan Women’s Cricket Project has progressed.

Although details are not given, the report will provide Afghan players opportunities to talk to international women cricketers and participate in coach workshops during global programs.

The project has been organized in partnership with cricket boards of India and England.

In April this year, the ICC formed a task force, aimed at integrating facilities for direct wealth, high quality coaching and displaced Afghan women cricketers.

In 2021, dozens of players from Afghanistan’s national women’s team moved to Australia after controlling the Taliban and banning women’s sports. Since then, players have been demanding formal support.

The ICC issued a statement stating that it has signed an agreement to help displaced Afghan women players displaced with National Sports Federations in Australia, India and England.
