Herrington won the ISPS Handa Senior Open by three shots

Parderig Herrington on Sunday made 67 cards to win the ISPS Handa Senior Open in the Sunning Deal.

The Irish, who won his second senior open title last month, ended three strokes in the match against former Rider Cup captain Thomas Bejorn and 1997 champion Golfer of the Year, claiming his third senior success.

Herrington, who won the senior US Open in June, completed his four rounds in the Saning Dell in -16, and became the third Irish player to win the senior Open after Christie and Connor General and Darren Clark.

Harrington, who won the open in 2007 and defended the Championship in 2008, joined Chapter Charles, Darren Clarke, Gary Player and Tom Watson as the only men in history who won the Clerit Jig and the Senior Open Trophy.

The 53 -year -old began the day with a two stroke lead over Leonard, causing him to get three immediately after the first eagle in the old course in Sanningdale. Further benefits in the sixth and ninth holes increased its lead to four strokes after twisting, but after four birds race in six holes, Bijan went within two.

Dean’s speed was stopped by Boogie in the 16th and, despite leaving his own shot on the 17th, Harrington took three stroke lead at the 18th T.

The game’s partner Leonard also tried to pressure, but eventually signed two rounds of 68 and one for a two under 13. Herrington securely targeted his view on the 18th Green and had two pits for equal under the three, one 16 under 16 and after his 11th victory, after joining the ranks of more than 50s.

“I’m just very happy”

A happy Pedrig Harrington said about his third senior great success:

“Now I just won the tournament and went out and went there and played well. I think, yes, he’ll enter it. I know that I was talking about five players to win the open, to win the senior open, so you want to be in this category.

“As your age is increasing, you realize that a lot of things are inherited and what you have done and you want to win on a golf course like the Saning Dale. You want to work, and win a real open, win the senior open, after winning, it is a confirmation of a confirmation.”

The doublener continued:

“There are some big names on the trophy. I was watching it in front of the board last night. I was watching inside the board with all the winners. This is a deep sense of satisfaction. I am of a kind of winning in a way, but then you will have a deep sense that you have learned that you have done this.

“And especially you come to this stage, just a special window. You know, you can win later as a senior but the window, they say, up to about 55, 56, so you want to do it. And you want to do it.

The Australian Scott Hand finished the fourth week on 12 under 12, while Erne Ellis and Cameron Percy were ranked fifth under 11 under 11.
