George Russell has revealed that Mercedes is holding a “big meeting” in an attempt to understand the loss of the team’s form in the last few rounds of the 2025 season this week.
Burt started firmly for the year, claiming four podiums when he remained in the top five in each of the first six races of the season.
The highlight of the Mercedes’ campaign came when the team won Russell and Kimi Antonali, the team’s partner, won the podium in Canada in June, but then the three races were “poor”.
Russell was ranked fifth on Sunday in the Grand Prix of Belgium, but Oscar Patteria and Lando Norris ended half a minute before the dominant McLares, and – perhaps more than that – Ferrari’s Charles Lacker and Red Bill’s Max Verstepen for a third fight for the third.
Russell told Sky Sports F1: “To be honest, it was very difficult.
“Because we support the cold conditions. So we couldn’t really ask for a better weather for us. But recently we have no pace yet. We need to sit.
“We’re holding a big meeting with all designers and engineers this week. To understand the decisions we have made in recent weeks or months. And why we have moved backwards. So Hungary is expected to improve.”
Mercedes has introduced a series of upgrades to the W16 in the past two months, but Russell has admitted that the team has failed to remove the new parts.
He added: “P5 was probably flattering the actual pace of the car, so at least I am happy that we were more and more possible.
“We made a clear change in the direction a few months ago, and I think that since then we have taken one step back.
“Sometimes it takes some races to understand what the real reasons for this speed lack, but it seems clearly it seems that we need to return to what we had before.”
Does the Front Wing Roll change the struggle of Mercedes?
Mercedes chief off -track side engineering Andrew Shawlin confessed after the race in Spa that the team had struggled to balance its car since the introduction of a technical directive (TD) in the Spanish Grand Prix, which restricted the front wing’s allowance.
He said: “What we had in the early years was a car that worked a lot in every circuit.
“We were usually fighting for the second row of the grid, if not the next row, it is probably true for anyone that TD will not improve stability, but we have this wing on the car in Montreal and it was fine.
“The fact is that other people are able to improve their cars a bit. There is no doubt for us. We are just looking at all the steps we have taken in the last number with the design of the race.
“This is not just the front wing that has changed, and I am sure there is more that we can learn. This is the focus on the next few races, trying to identify why we are getting the problem of this entry stability.”
Mercedes has very little time to overturn its luck before the second stage of the back -to -back in Hungary this weekend before the summer break.
The “big meeting” described by Russell will be confirmed on Monday, Sholin expressed confidence that positive changes could be made for Hungarian.
He added: “It is certainly possible for us to look at the changing aspects of the car.
“How deep we go will depend on what parts are around us.
“There is a lot that we have changed, so we have a meeting with the drivers yesterday so that we can try to pass something out of what we have done during the year that our efforts are focused on the right things and not just changing things for it.”
