In a meeting of the Standing Committee, Chairman FBR said that four types of taxes were kept at zero for sugar exports.
The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee was chaired by Junaid Akbar, in which Secretary Food Security gave a detailed briefing on the situation of sugar in the country, stating that sugar production was reduced this year due to climate change.
Briefing said that 87 MT of sugar was produced last year and this year it was 84 MT. Last year, 77 sugar mills were crushed while 79 mills were done this year. Due to the increase in prices, the buffer has approved a summary of 5 million tonnes of sugar for stock.
Riyaz Fatiyana said that a new SRO was released from FBR, the sales tax was reduced from 18 % to 0.2 %.

Khwaja Shiraz raised the question of how was 7.5 million tonnes of sugar sent from the country? On which Chairman FBR said that 4 types of taxes were kept at zero for sugar exports, on which Junaid Akbar asked if the IMF would say anything about it.
Chairman FBR replied, “I think the IMF will definitely say something.”
