Michigan will allegedly open its 2026 season against the Western Michigan in Germany. The report came from ON3’s Brett McMarfi, which broke the news on X on Friday.

Michigan program appreciates the ability to play internationally in 2026

Michigan coach Sharon Moore discussed the occasion during the Big Ten Media Day on Friday.
“I am excited about football and educational experience that this game can provide to our players,” Moore said in a statement. “We are always looking for unique opportunities to expose our students athletes to other cultures. In the last 10 years, our program has been in Italy, France and South Africa, and this game will provide another opportunity to expand our international fan base.”
Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel is particularly excited about the ability to spread the “Go Blue” brand internationally.
“Michigan University College is one of the few worldwide brands of Athletics and interest in playing international games will be unique,” Manuel said. “This will be a great opportunity to teach a new group of fans in Germany.”
The game will be the first international game of Michigan in its 145 -year history. The game will be the first between the fifth of college football in Germany and the FBS programs.
Next year, TCU and North Carolina will also open their weather in Europe on August 29, 2026, from Ireland’s Dublin.
