Experts in federal institutions will not compromise on priority, merit and transparency: Prime Minister

A review meeting was held in federal ministries and departments under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and the public private partnership authority progressed on the appointment of technicians and strategies for foreign investment.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister clarified that the institutional reforms of the federal government are one of the top priorities and the government aims to ensure the appointment of technicians on the basis of digitization of the economy, the correct size and merit of the institutions.

Taking a stand, the Prime Minister said that any agreement on merit and transparency in the process of deployment of experts will never be acceptable. During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed by the Public Private Partnership Authority, stating that the deployment to 15 technical posts has been completed so far, while the recruitment process of experts is going on for more than 47.

The meeting was informed that 30 candidates have been shortlisted for the appointment of Director Managing Director in seven chief executive officers, Chief Finance Officers and Seven Principal Ministries and Departments. The initial stages of interview for deployment in Petroleum Division and National Vocational and Technical Training Commission have been completed.

In a briefing on investment strategy, it was said that federal ministries nominated focal teams, while the investment department has been designed for information technology and telecommunications, railway and tourism sectors. Work on more areas such as food security, nutrition, minerals, industries, housing and energy structures is in the final stages.

The meeting stated that 18 different economic sectors have been developed for possible investment projects with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Qatar and Kuwait to implement partnership opportunities with these countries.

The meeting was attended by Federal Plan Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, federal economic affairs federal minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Law and Justice Nazir Tarad Minister, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Aaron Akhtar and the top government officials concerned for production.
