A 600-acres fire burning in the county of Ventura Thursday afternoon sparked evacuations in and around Piru and put neighboring communities in the Santa Clarita valley in high alert in the middle of a major heat wave that civil servants warn could promote extreme growth and behavior.
The Canyon fire broke out around 2 p.m. near Holser Canyon Road, northeast of Piru – a small town not constituted in a company not far from Castaic Junction, where the Interstate 5 meets the 126 motorway, according to officials of the county of Ventura. The fire was initially reported to around 30 acres, but in the hour, this estimate had jumped at 600 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The fire services of the county of Ventura and the County of Los Angeles responded to the scene.
The fire increased quickly at 3 p.m., according to the Los Angeles office of the National Weather Service. Officials said the area faced temperatures up to 100 degrees with gusts of wind up to 25 mph.
The managers of the county of Ventura published evacuation orders for the leisure area of Lake Piru, as well as communities towards the south in Piru and in the east to the line of the county. According to the county evacuation cards, some communities southwest of Castaic in the County of Los Angeles.
The officials said that the fire seemed to be far from Piru, but threatened the community of Hasley Canyon in the county, as well as electric lines in the region, according to Cal Fire.
Over 100 firefighters and seven helicopters reacted.
The Canyon fire is the fourth major fire in the region in recent days, including the fire Gifford which burns through the line of Santa Barbara-San Luis Obispo. This fire, which launched last week, is now the largest in California this year at more than 98,000 acres.
