European Union governments increased RA & D allocation by 3% in 2024

This indicates an increase of 3.4% compared to 2023 (€ 123 675 million) and 59.5% increase compared to 2014 (€ 80 175 million).

Data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) showed that in 2024, the government budget allocation for R&D at the European Union level was € 284.7 per capita, 57.0% increase compared to 2014 (€ 181.3 per capita).

High allocations between the countries of the European Union were recorded in Luxembourg (€ 759.2 individuals), followed by Denmark (€ 586.8) and some distance by the Netherlands (€ 542.7). On the other hand, the lowest R&D budget allocation per person was in Romania (€ 19.
