Mercedes chief Toto Woolf says he will remember Christian Horner “in a way” after the removal of the rival team’s principal for a long time by the Red Bill.
The pair shared a severe enmity that increased in 2021 as Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton fought the Red Bill’s Max Versestapin for the World Championship, which gave birth to many years of conflict, which continued until Horner’s last week.
Horner, who has been in charge of the Red Bill since entering the team’s game in 2005, has replaced Wolf’s longest serving team principal.
Asked Sky Sports F1 This weekend, in the Grand Prix of Belgium, whether he would be Miss Horner, the Wolf replied: “In a way, yes. He was one of the central caste.
“He was a person who was not controversial, polarizing and soft washing.
“It was better than the entertainment element, and from that point of view, it will be remembered. His track record speaks itself.”
Austria then jokingly made fun that if the governing body of the British game returned to the game with the FIA, Horner could cause him to worry.
Wolf said, “I don’t think he went forever, he could pop up in another function.”
“I need to be careful, he can rotate in the FIA then I’m really in S ***.”
Woolf has denied the Red Bill on Horner’s sack
Horner’s sudden dismissal came to the back of heavy speculations, which added four -time world champion Virttepan to the Red Bill with a blockbuster switch in Mercedes.
The future of Dutchman was brought back to the spotlight in June when Mercedes’ driver George Russell said his own contract was extended by the team’s chasing.
Woolf then confirmed that he was in a conversation with the Virtan camp, promoting speculation that the switch could be in 2026, or is more likely in the 2027 season.
After Horner’s dismissal, Wolf eliminated the chances of joining Virtan in 2026, which led to some speculation that he had previously used the situation to put pressure on the Red Bill rating.
When this theory was put to him, Wolf replied: “No. There is more in the background that we may not know with the Red Bill.
“Taking care of drivers, as the principal of the Mercedes team, I need to discover what Max is going to do in the next few years, not just next year.”
Many people believed that Horner’s removal was largely influenced by a Red Bill owners that rejecting it would increase the chances of maintaining versatopine.
Wolf said: “I think the drivers will always find the fastest car, which is much more than any monetary privileges.
“It’s about the fastest car and its analysis. That’s what Max and all the other work will do.”
