Branding and your career

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter

When you buy detergents to wash your clothes, do you ever stand in the corridor of the store, look at the list of ingredients, and said to yourself, “Hmm. Washing machineWill the interrelation between chemicals in this one make much more cleaner than my washing? ,

no way. You buy detergents because it is cheap, you have a coupon, you have seen a commercial or your mother or father has used a special type of detergent rather than the efficacy of a particular brand.

Thus, you have made a case for the matter why branding is such an important criteria as to why people take decisions and why you need to invest in the manufacture of your career brand, before you consider a change in your next career. After all, the person who moves forward is not always the most clever or works the most difficult. , , Although they are great qualities. Sometimes, opportunities are internal for your firm. Mostly, they are external.

Now, I certainly do not expect that you are going to buy an advertisement dollar to make your own impression as an expert, but I believe that you can invest in your career to make real estate in people’s minds and be seen as a subject matter expert.

  1. Have a blog of our own. Recruiters love to find ideas leaders for their customers.
  2. There is a video of presenting a business group or business group about its expertise.
  3. Post videos on YouTube on the publishing platform and share it once and many times with your contacts with the public.
  4. Once a month, write an article for LinkedIn. Follow the steps given above after you have on LinkedIn.
  5. Share your videos and articles on Twitter and Facebook
  6. There are many podcasts that search for expert guests for their shows. Contact the host. Often, an email address is available or they can refer to their linkedIn profile on their link. Ask the host what they would like to interview you. Most will conduct a brief pre-interview to achieve your feeling as a potential guest. When your appearance becomes live, keep it in your blog like something else and share it with your readers, as well as on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
  7. Be a speaker for your expertise. By doing the above items, it will help you to bring you to the radar for conferences and events at the national level. These organizations sell tickets for events based on the brand of those who will present. You may not be on the mainstage for the first time, but you can develop there with time and effort.

Years ago, a friend of mine spoke to me for the next 10-15 years of his career about planning a career. As a low-level officer with a regional bank, he knew that he would have to step into class in terms of role and organization.

“We want the search firms to reach you, not in another way. We have to place you as a thoughtful leader and you have to take it to the speaking circuit.”

His first step came after less than a year when he was contacted by an executive discovery for a VP role in a large American bank. A part of his interaction was obtaining permission to speak on the subject. “My success will rub on you,” he told them. He survived several bank acquisitions and was eventually hired as a partner with one of the major counseling firms. His salary, exclusive of bonus, increased by seven times during this period. His bonus doubled his salary.

Most of us have heard the imagination of three small pigs, each of which builds a house with different materials. While “The Big Bad Wolf” can blow up houses made of straw and wood, he is unable to demolish the piglet’s house that is made of brick.

Most people manufacture a career made of inferior material and then, by outsourcing the responsibility for employers for their careers, reduce the mistake that focus (and is right) is not on them but the success of business.

Knowing that you are responsible, do you think you should take a lazy way for employers to remove the responsibility for their career or look at yourself and make a solid career of brick?
