Head coach Andy Ferrell has revealed that Gary Rangros has removed himself from the second test of British and Irish lines as the XV has already been named internally.
The center lost the first test due to hesitation against Australia, as Ferrell launched Scotland duo Seven Topolo and Ho Jones on the bench with Ireland’s Bande Aki in Midfield.
Rangros returned to a 24-19 victory against First Nations and Pasfika on Tuesday, replacing the injured Darisi Graham (ankle) and playing the best part of 65 minutes.
It is now emerging that Ferrell intended to go with Rangers and Aki at the Irish Center for the second test in Melbourne MCG, until he announced it in the squad, even contacted him in his training on Thursday to show that it was not well.
“Gary Rangros was actually selected, and unfortunately he had to get out of training today,” said Faryel.
“It’s once again associated with the head, so I don’t really know at this stage [what’s happened]. It was literally when I was walking from the field, he came to me, and once after mentioning it, he is.
“There was no incident, he was feeling good before Tuesday, fit and ready for the game. There is no event through the game, nothing tomorrow and nothing this morning.
“But with these kinds of things, players look great to tell the truth about how they feel.
“It’s unfortunate for Gary, but we have always said it’s about the squad and nothing but the squad.”
Asked Sky Sports’ Ferrell agreed that the Ringerovs had an unprecedented act to effectively reject themselves.
He said: “In fact it is [an unbelievably unselfish act]. I thought just that he mentioned it to me because it is difficult to do.
“It is very easy to keep it and lie and not to be honest and open. It was a great thing and it was the right thing for it, 100 %. For the team, not only for Gary.”
Atjo: I am a gut for Ringros – the Bay Breaky process shows its measurement
Lines Captain Muro Atju was also at a press conference on Thursday, and the lock touched the Rangers situation.
“I am absolutely a gut for Gary. I played against Gary in the U20s and after that we both got our international career.
“Playing and familiar with her in the past few months has been a real privilege and honor, so I am messing up for her that she is in this position.
“But that too, as you guys have pointed out, the measurement of this person reveals to him.
“We all have to ask that they are selfless and keep the team first. But when the push comes to provoke, you see who really does it – and Gary is the man who really did it.”
