Scandinavia (4/1) defeated its stable Illinois to win Group 1 Al -Shaqab Goodwood Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
Last month, the winner of the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy Stekes in the New Market, Scandinavia needed a two -mile courtyard under Karki Van Lordan, as it overtook the house near the front runner Illinois (7/4 favorite) after a permanent war.
Eden O’Brien trained pair was a clean length of sweet William (4/1). Sadly, the race was subjected to a fatal injury to the winner of 2021, which was rapidly pulled by Holly Dual Mid Content.
Scandinavia, who is the son of justification, is the first three -year -old young man to take Al -Shaqab Goodwood Cup since the Straudewares in 2017.

“He lives forever”
Successful handler, Eden O’Brien said about the winner:
“I am happy. Van gave a wonderful ride to Scandinavia. In the skate he made a beautiful race when the van rode on it, when he got stuck all the way, but he kept coming, and then Ryan boarded him in the new market and said he was a very good horse. He said he was always living forever.”
Talking about future potential plans, the Baldwel Trainer said:
“The boys will make these decisions [about the St Leger and so on]But obviously the Lambourne did not go to King George because John Brogiel was going there, so he looked at Waltigur, and then he could go anywhere after that – to the arc or the St. Ledger. All these things are open, but I would say that this horse looks ready for the St. Ledger because he lives forever, today is easily dealt with in the earth here, and is very straightforward.
Another big win for Lordan
This year Betfraved Derby winning rider Van Lordan said of his recent major victory:
“Credit to Scandinavia, he has improved all year long. He was taking two miles against the old horses today. It was a difficult task, but I thought he had moved forward.
“Illinois is a very real horse, a group is a horse, and this horse was entering his company today. Before that he never ran into the company, so today he was about to know how smart he is. Obviously, he is a very smart stay.
