The immigration and passport department has recently announced that the mother’s name will now be written in the name of the mother along with the passport.

A spokesperson of the Department of Immigration and Passport told independent Urdu that the decision was made keeping in mind international standards as young children have an identity problem during immigration, which requires both father and mother, so it is decided to include the mother’s name in the passport.

“In addition, the objective is to facilitate women who are raising children alone for some reason.”

According to the spokesperson: ‘This new policy will be applicable to the newly formed passport, but the passports that have been made will be used till the completion of their tenure, but if anyone wants to update, it can also create a new passport.’

Mary (fake name because the woman does not want to reveal her identity) is a single mother and is quite satisfied with the decision to enter her mother’s name on the passport.

Mary is separated from her husband. they have three children. Two daughters live with their father, but the son lives with him.

As a single mother, she has difficulties in many places to identify her son.

In a conversation with independent Urdu, Mary said that last year she made her son’s passport: ‘I know how difficult I had to go to the passport alone, you need an order from the court that the father has given NOC and you can go and make a passport.

He said, “The problem of house address on the passport also has to be faced that if the child is living with the mother, the father’s house will be written and the husband’s name should also be listed on the mother’s identity card.”

Mary says that the mother’s name on the passport is a good step, it will improve a lot of things and make it easy for single mother -in.

According to Mary: ‘Problems do not end here, but if you want to travel outside the country, you cannot take the child out until you have a patron letter. The court gives you a permit, which is listed on the date and time of the departure and is returning from the country.

‘If you are a single mother, understand that you are paralyzed. You cannot go out of the country alone with the child and even if you have all the documents, you are still upset on the immigration and not only here but also in other countries, the immigration is tired and asked where the child’s father is, but these questions have arisen in Pakistan. ,

Mary believes that the mother’s name on the passport is somewhat Sikh’s breath, but she also says that she should be more streamlined. “As Nadra gave a lot of relief, she started issuing a family registration certificate (FRC) in her mother’s name and was not to be a father, so if something was removed for the journey, it was written on the passport that the mother was a single parent and she was allowed to travel.

Ursa Adnan is the mother of a daughter and works. In a conversation with independent Urdu, he said that it was a good step that the mother’s name was being written on the passport, but she believes that not only passports but also many other documents should also include mother’s name.

According to Ursa: ‘Both me and my husband work, but I pay my salary in the child’s school fees and other expenses. Whenever he received a tax certificate from school to submit a tax details a few years ago, he used to make my husband’s name, that is, it was sure for him that his father would pay the fee while the fees had gone from my account, I always had to go to school and make it right. ,

Ursa also complained that the permit slip for children’s educational visits should be often signed, and in any case, if the child gets a certificate, the father’s name is also listed. In my view, if such things are listed on such things, then mothers like us who are spending children’s education, be happy, this is not the case, whatever we do is not everything, but the number becomes father. ,

Is Nadra also planning to enter the mother’s name on the ID card?

In this regard, Nadra spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali told independent Urdu: ‘Who is our family system, on which we issue the family registration certificate, in which the family is headed and the names of both mother and father within FRC are not only due to father’s name.

At the same time, he said: “However, we have introduced another system, which will now include the image of the child and its biometrics in this form to prevent human trafficking.”

According to Syed Shabbat Ali: ‘First Child Registration Certificate or B form did not have pictures of children, due to which the human smugglers took another child on B form. Now we have changed our rules on June 19, 2025, under which children are being photographed above the B forms above the age of three, and biometrics are being taken from those above 10 years. ,

He said that to prevent human trafficking, the passport office did that he added his mother’s name to the passport and Nadra ranges in his B form so that pictures of children and their fingerprints were available for them, but both companies responded to human trafficking.

According to Syed Shabahat Ali: ‘Mother’s name has also been registered on FRC for the convenience of single Madrasas. In the name of the father, it can be written either that it is not life or the mother’s position will be divorced.

‘When the child removes his B form, which is required everywhere, whether it is an educational case, a matter of property distribution or traveling outside the country, FRC is required, only identity cards do not run and both parents are listed on FRC, but if you say that the father’s name is not available, then Nadra’s name is not available.
