The former sheriff of the County of Los Angeles, Alex Villanueva, recorded a campaign committee for the November 2026 elections to win back his previous post.
Villanueva’s is the biggest name to date to participate in the race at the post lost against the Sheriff Robert Luna in 2022. Luna has already declared her plans to request a re -election.
A deposit on the The website of the Secretary of State of California shows that a Villanueva committee for Sheriff 2026 has been recorded.
It is not known when the file was made.
In an email at Times on Saturday, Villanueva did not immediately answer questions to confirm his intentions, but he said: “I will have something available next week.”
Luna managed the Sheriff department with a relatively calm hand, after Villanueva presided over a period of controversy and prosecution.
But Villanueva has maintained a high profile, using social media and the apparitions on broadcasting platforms to weigh on a wide range of questions concerning the department and the Comté policy.
