Columbia University has agreed to pay a fine of $ 200 million to settle its one -month legal struggle with the Trump administration, the New York Times reported, citing a declaration from the Ivy League school.

The ban marks a major victory for the Trump administration in its current battles with elite universities on their admission policies, student activism on campus and a range of other questions.

In the case of Columbia, the administration alleged that the University based in New York had not done enough to stop the harassment of Jewish students on the campus. The agreement between the University and the Trump administration opens the way to Columbia to recover hundreds of millions of federal funds in exchange for the pay of a fine, according to the Times.
