400 employees of Sindh Government Children Hospital Karachi are working under public private partnership, deprived of their salary for 4 months. Employees have warned the hospital administration that there will be protests if there is no salary in August.
The hospital administration confirmed that the Express Tribune inquiry about the lack of salary for the employees said that the salary will be paid to these employees next month as the hospital is still in the process, the budget is expected to be received by the hospital by next week.
It can be remembered that in 2004, the Sindh Government Children Hospital was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, when the hospital was under the Provincial Health Department and 50 beds were present in the hospital.
Protests continue in the hospital, in 2013, a new building was built in the hospital in collaboration with Jika’s NGO Jika, after which the hospital was unique for the children’s hospital in Karachi, but at that time the children were released by the Health Department for Rs 10 crore and were provided in the hospital by night.
In October 2016, the Health Department established the hospital under an NGO in the name of public private participation, after which the hospital budget was increased to Rs 44 crore.
According to the Health Department, Sindh Government Children Hospital has been given an NGO (10 years) contract by October 2026. The future of the hospital will be decided in October 2026. After public private participation, employees in the hospital have been closed due to non -payment of salary on time.
No major surgery of children can be performed in the hospital from 2004 to 2025, only general diseases of children are treated in the hospital, more than 300 employees in children’s hospital are under NGOs, while 65 people including MS are under Health Department.
A woman who comes to the hospital Rabia said that children with complex diseases are sent to Nick or Civil Hospital and the hospital has no facility for any complex diseases for children.
