From December 2020, a large -scale bitcoin hest has just been exposed, which is the largest crypto hack in history.
For Arkham Intelligence, Hackers stole 127,426 BTC ($ 112,348.00) from Lubian, Chin’s mining pool. The stolen bitcoin was $ 3.5 billion at that time. Due to the increase in the price of bitcoin, those assets now value $ 14.5 billion.
Lubian explight was the biggest crypto hack in history
Lubian operated mining facilities in China and Iran. In 2020, it contains 6% of the total hash rate of bitcoin.
Arkham’s on-chain analysis found that 90% of Lubians BTC was prepared on December 28, 2020.
Neither Lubian nor hacker publicly violated. The amount remained inactive till a consolidation incident in July 2024.
The revival of Arkham added several addresses used in theft and saw that each gave OP_RETURN messages from lubians. The pool spent 1.4 BTC in 1,516 transactions for the presence for stolen funds.
This pattern strongly suggests that hack was real and not spofed. The hacker has not yet shifted the stolen BTC again.
Arkham suspects that Lubian used a flawed key generation algorithm, which may have expressed its personal key to cruel-force attacks. Lubian still costs about 11,886 BTC $ 1.35 billion.
Meanwhile, the stand of the hacker remains untouched, making them globally the 13th largest BTC holder.
This revelation crosses the previous record – $ 1.5 billion bybit hack in February 2025.
